Dreams and the Subconscious
Author: Biljana
Where do our dreams come from?
Why do we dream?
The three of us!
We are made up of three minds. The conscious mind, the unconscious mind, and the higher self. Although on a day to day basis, most of us may be unaware of this, because during the awake state we are governed by the conscious mind.
The Manager
The conscious mind does all of the analysing, and the decision making. In a typical night we can have several dreams, with different kinds of important messages, and during the awake state, the conscious mind will work hard to try and find the meaning (important message) but often get carried away with the content of the dream, being unaware of what is happening deep within the unconscious, and thereafter become entangled with the powerful emotions experienced in the dream and alas, confusion reigns. This all happens very quickly.
The conscious mind has a lot to deal with and must reach some kind of a rational explanation, or conclusion. However, may not always have the necessary information to do this and at that point, we can safely assume that these hidden messages in our dreams, may remain exactly that. Hidden. This is how we have recurring dreams.
The Producer
The unconscious mind stores and filters through all the information. It contains our beliefs, values, memories, emotions, habits and behaviors. It creates reactions based on this information. So, if you thought the conscious mind has its work cut out, have a thought for the unconscious mind.
This particular mind has a direct connection to both, the conscious mind and the higher self, and it pivots between the two of them. As it receives information from the higher self, during the dream state, the unconscious mind uses symbols, via the dream, to communicate them to the conscious mind. Nature finds a way!
The Wisdom
The higher self, or the 'Guide', is our direct connection with the Divine, universal mind. It is considered to be the soul part of ourselves. This mind is the knowledge, and the wisdom of all 'knowing', and understanding. It is referred to as 'pure', and passes on the wisdom through the other two minds.
We feel the messages through our intuition. The more guidance we receive, the clearer the connection will be to our higher awareness. The higher self. Now, the challenge is, to try and encourage the conscious mind to accept that there is, in fact, a greater mind containing all the necessary information to assist the conscious mind with all those important choices to make.
The Movie Analogy
Lets think of dreams as a movie. We'll simplify the production down to three people, the director, producer and the viewer.
Now, the director (higher self or wisdom) has the full script, he has a message that he'd like to get across to the viewer and it is his job to let the producer know what this message is.
The producer (subconscious) is there to make the film. Unfortunately he can't afford actors or sets and has very little to work with to get the message across. Imagine, if you like, trying to make a hollywood film by editing old home videos.
Finally we come to the viewer (conscious), now the viewer has to make sense of the story. As a viewer it is best not to get too involved in the content (which is likely to be quite strange) but rather with the overall message being conveyed.
View your dreams as a movie, think about who the actors represent (often parts of yourself), and the feelings that you get from them. Enjoy your own movies, they're designed specifically for you to help you grow and learn through your life.
Throughout the day, telling someone about your dream will assist you to recall things you may have missed when first writing it out. Noticing the feeling behind a dream will often reveal the meaning. Please visit our discussion Forum.
Your dreams provide you with a ground for self-repair. They make prominent the imbalances and unrecognised potentials in your life and bring them to your conscious attention, so that you can search for improvement, which will help achieve a harmony between the body, mind and spirit.
